Employees formerly based at the Morley Street site have relocated to a leased office facility, two miles away on the Charnwood Campus in Loughborough.
3M had occupied the historic former hosiery mill building in Morley Street since the early 1950s. However, the company believed that the time was right to move the 170 people based there to new premises that reflect its position as a global, science-based technology company and can support its future growth and development plans.
In the second phase of the move, the Research and Development (R&D) Laboratories, formerly housed on the Derby Road site, also moved to upgraded facilities in Charnwood Campus.
3M’s manufacturing and distribution operations have remained at the Derby Road site, where more than 600 people are based. The site, which produces drug delivery systems and medical products, has benefited from significant investment in recent years to provide extra capacity to support the growth of its branded and generic product portfolios.
The move to Charnwood Campus demonstrates 3M’s commitment to remaining in Loughborough as the centre of its UK Health Care business.
