Sound volume

Traffic sounds

Sounds get louder as they get closer

The sounds given out by moving cars get louder as they get closer and quieter as they move away. This is why it is important to listen when crossing a road.

We should use our ears to listen for traffic and work out how far away it is and how fast it is travelling (how quickly the sound is getting louder). But we should always look at the road as well because some cars are quiet and bicycles make hardly any sound!

Go to next page and see if you can drag and drop the sound clips to match the pictures and description of where they came from.
