Encourage your child to be safe on the roadsWalkingAges 10 to 15 – Gaining independence
It's always a good idea for children to wear a high-visibility item, for example, retro-reflective strips on their school bags or trainers, or bright, pale coloured clothing so drivers can see them.
Set a good driving example! Kids this age may be starting to think about learning to drive when they turn 17. Young drivers are much more likely to take life-threatening risks behind the wheel than older drivers, such as speeding, driving on drink or drugs or overtaking dangerously. Make sure your children understand these risks and ensure you’re setting a good example – if they see you speed, or drive after a drink or two, they’re more likely to endanger their own lives by doing the same.
