Fossil fuels
Fossil fuels are made from the remains of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago.
They were formed over millions of years in very specific environmental conditions.
Coal
- Trees died.
- Trees were buried under lots of sediment and so did not decay.
- Lots of soil and rock was gradually laid on top of the buried trees so they were squashed.
- The trees became buried deeper into the Earth and with the heat and
pressure they turned
into coal.
